I've adopted a whole helluva load of fandoms along the way, and i swing
between them like a rabid yoyo. Boy do i get confused.
In the individual fandom pages i have discussed
some episodes, and may let loose some spoilers. It's up to you if you
want to risk that. If there are major story-arc spoilers i won't be ruining
those, but ep endings will often be discussed.
i
spy : having grabbed this on dvd on a whim, i watched the first
dvd box set in five days and fell utterly and completely in love with
Kelly and Scotty, the spies travelling the world undercover as a tennis
bum and his coach. Robert Culp (Kelly) is one of the best whump actors
i've watched and damn gorgeous to boot, and Bill Cosby (Scott) is sweet
and surprisingly hot. Together, they're adorable, the banter is wonderful,
and everything is alright with the world. ::sigh::

alien
nation : man, you can tell from the graphic. this series deserves
such credit for attempting a fusion of cop-plot and character-driven drama.
it may have it's cheesy moments, but when you're watching a man like Sikes
tear up while his partner hugs him, you really couldn't give a flying
fuck, you know? It is, in places, beautiful. Hilarious often, and Sikes
gives good sneaker. Also good whump. Also good hair. Bliss.

hardcastle
& mccormick : just released on dvd in canada only, so a new
series to me, and a wonderful example of a buddy-show. Hardcastle is a
retired judge who takes mark McCormick (an ex-con) under his wing to help
him solve 200 cases that escaped his court on technicalities. Hardcastle
is gruff as heck, in contrast to Mark's playful and cheeky smart-mouthed
attitude. they care for each dearly, and their friendship is a joy to
watch.

man
in a suitcase : the man is McGill, an ex-CIA agent framed for
treason, six years out of the agency and making his money as a private
detective. 30 episodes which first introduced me to McGill as an unfathomable,
stone-hearted and inpenetrable character, soon mellowed into a sympathetic
and captivating watch. i fast fell in love, the lure aided muchly by the
way other characters kept beating him over the head with blunt objects.
Hoorah! :P

hunter
: a classic eighties cop show, with one hella tall starring man,
Rick Hunter. He's partnered with DeeDee who is every bit as spunky as
he is, and together they raise hell. It's great fun, they've an excellent
friendship and the show covers some great stories. Nowhere near as much
whump as my others series, but still manages the odd gem, and surprised
me with some odd discoveries (like the dilectible Lt.Finn. Someone hold
me back, rawr!).

sledge
hammer : a fantastic spoof cop-series about a nihilistic, sadistic
cop called Sledge Hammer, who talks to his gun and delights in gratuitous
violence. Frankly, i'd love it even if it wasn't a comedy, but the humour
is hilarious, and David Rasche is simply gorgeous. There's dry humour,
a screaming boss that induces this fantastic kind of wincing-snarl from
Sledge, and some perfectly timed slapstick. It's growlingly brilliant,
and hell i want that man's gun... rooawr!

magnum
pi: and for my next trick, i shall adore men with moustaches!
And it's not difficult, given that Thomas Magnum is a hunk of a sweetheart,
with a sarcastic and huggable manner. His relationship with Higgins makes
the show, with their fantastic banter and mind games always bringing a
grin to my face, Magnum's odd friendships with TC and Rick are the icing
on the cake, and the series is basically the perfect mix of comedy, action
and drama.

trackdown:
robert culp's first western, he starred in this texas ranger-sanctioned
series when he was a tender 27. he wears that gunbelt slung low, and cripes
if it doesn't give me the shivers just thinkin' of it. Hoby is a true
loner, and gallant but human soul trying desperately to maintain the moral
code while promoted to the position of Texas Ranger. Each ep is 30mins,
there's narration, and some excellent character focused action filled
stories.

numb3rs
: i fell in love with this through squinty-vision, but
it's out on dvd now (yay!). the story revolves around two brothers; Don
Epps is an FBI agent who frequently recruits his younger, sensitive, mathematically
gifted brother to help with cases. Charlie is also gifted with the most
fantastical curly hair, an amazingly vulnerable character and some excellent
angsting eps, and the brothers are affectionate and lovely throughout.

babylon
5 : quite the epic, i've been a b5 fan for a looong time. Michael
Garibaldi got dented every now and then, as the chief of security, and
spend almost a whole season being mentally tortured by a psi-cop called
Bester. Exxxcccellent. :P Some characters changed in the station, but
there were always favourites to watch, the sense of humour was constant
and the episodes exciting.

firefly
: joss whedon's latest creation, and a truly brilliant show.
Everyone will have seen Serenity by now, and hopefully plans are in the
offing for a season two based on the success of that movie. Being a joss
show everyone gets whumped to hell, which suits me fine, especially as
Mal tends to be 'everyone'. Mmm. The show's sometimes too good for me,
too realistic, so i don't watch as often as everything else, but still
love it with a passion.

renegade
: another from my childhood, an oft-cheesy but long-running American
show about a cop turned bounty hunter who was framed for the murder of
his fiance. He had a Harley. It's the one i want. Such is the drooling
that goes on when i watch this show that i have to wear a raincoat. Lorenzo
Lamas is also a terrific martial artist (i have quite a few of his other
fighting films, all fairly crap but you get to the fight scenes and suddenly
don't care, you know?).

star
trek: the next generation : ah ooold familar. It's like your
old car that really doesn't work but you just can't find the heart to
throw it away. My dad and i used to watch Star Trek on a Wednesday with
pizza and grated carrot with salad dressing. Every episode tastes of grated
carrot and salad dressing to me. One of my comfort shows, it makes me
feel safe - everything's plastic and everyone's okay at the end of the
45 minutes. Plus they're dayahm sexy...

forever
knight : this show really hit me hard, and not completely in
a good way. It has come across to me as really dark, partly because there
are quite a few things about Nick that hit home for me. Anyhoo, he's an
angst-ridden vampire with a dislike for killing (this show did it first!
booooo to angel!) and a constant difficult struggle against his blood-lust.
It's dark, and sometimes quite hopeless, but i can't help but love it.

starsky
& hutch : tight leather, hugging, man-comfort, and gunfights.
Honestly, you can't really ask for more. Add the curly-hair quota from
Paul Michael Glaser, and i might as well have died and gone to heaven.
I am also fairly sure that exposure to the constant canon man-love that
is so goddamn gratuitous in this show is largely responsible for my eventual
turn to slash. Also, whumpage=ample, comfort=stellar.

battlestar
galactica : starbucks golden hair makes me go wibbly at the knees...
and his gorgeous smile! Dirk Benedict is wonderful as the orphan, gambling
hot-shot pilot, and Apollo provides the friendship and comfort. Series'
like these just beat the pants off anything we have these days, with the
cylons roving red eyes terrorising the future spangly-clad citizens. And
they have ape robots. What more could you ask for?

stargate
: i nearly left stargate out. Don't take that as an indication
of my lack of obsession with it... quite the contrary, it has been so
much of a constant in my internet life that it is always in the back of
my mind. My first whump-friends were on the JackFic group (back when it
was all jack, the original bunch) and my first real fully-formed and shared
fics were in the stargate fandom. I whumped jack in many wierd and wonderful
ways, and i owe the fandom so much.

the
greatest american hero : i just found this recently, as a show
that Robert Culp co-starred in, and was overjoyed to find that his character
was also fairly whumped throughout. He's a good 20 years older than when
he starred in I Spy, but still overwhelmingly gorgeous, and still acting
splendidly. Bill Maxwell is goofy, tragic, irritating and lovable. The
show itself has some great banter and writing, as is to be expected from
a Cannell show.
